The beginning

In 2020 my brother Ed died suddenly at 29 in Asia. During this sad time for my family we each had jobs to help us feel useful and keep busy. My sister did an amazing job organising the funeral and repatriating my brother’s body back to England. I was given the technical job of creating a funeral slideshow to help celebrate Ed’s life.

Being tasked with the job of creating a montage to celebrate my brother’s life was a real honour, but also a real challenge, with having to go through the photographs of my brother. But ultimately the process helped with the grieving process and gave me a purpose during these difficult days where life seemed to have lost all meaning. It kept me busy and I felt useful to my dear parents who were heartbroken at losing their beloved son.

The video was played at the wake after the funeral. It invoked an emotional response from friends and family members who attended. On days when I had the strength, I watched the video repeatedly during the first year and I still watch it today, especially on important milestones such as the anniversary of his death and his birthday.

Funeral Slideshow Service

Since then I have created numerous funeral slideshows for other families around the world. It’s a real privilege to be able to support families in a small way during the difficult period of losing someone you love. I know from my own experience that when grieving it can be just a challenge to put one foot in front of another.

I advertised my funeral slideshow service on my Fiverr gig and on another websites. When editing slideshows I noticed that a lot of families liked to be part of the creative process in producing the memorial video of their loved one. They often had strong opinions on the order, crop, zoom direction of the photos. And of course what music to be played in the background. Wanting ownership of these factors is completely understandable considering the important keepsake nature of a memorial video to celebrate the life of your loved one.

During production of these videos it gave me the idea of Funeral Collage. I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be great if there was some online funeral software that could create professional looking funeral slideshows. And wouldn’t it be great if these could be created by friends and family members themselves. For some family members, taking ownership of the creative process seems to help them, just like it helped me in 2010 - when I lost Ed.

I appreciate there is already various slideshow maker software available today on apps and websites. But I hope Funeral Collage can be unique by specialising in memorial and funeral videos and be sensitive to the nature of these types of videos.

Summary

Funeral Collage is a paid service. Our servers charge us a fee every time a video is generated due to the high powered online servers needed for creating an MP4 high definition file (same as platforms like YouTube). However, if for any reason you cannot pay, please do get in touch using the contact form on the homepage. And I will help out in any way I can. I do not want money to be a barrier in you creating a beautiful visual tribute of your dear loved one.
